The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, Professor Abdlulateef Usman, has disclosed that the institution will host an international conference of Islamic universities next month. Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, Professor Abdlulateef said necessary arrangement had been made to ensure a hitch-free conference between 7th and 9th of October . He explained that the conference was organised under the auspices of International Institute of Islamic Thought and that it would focus on provision of quality and standard education by Islamic universities. He said the conference, with the theme, ‘Sustainability of Islamic Universities’ would be attended by promoters of Islamic universities across the world. 

Osun state government has commended the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) for suspending its 7-day warning strike . The commendation was contained in a statement by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Sola Fasure. Fasure said State Executive Council commended the doctors for returning to work. According to him, "The Council, which sat on Wednesday 27th, said the calling off of the industrial action will further smoothen healthcare delivery in the state." Fasure added that the Council saluted the NMA for what it described as the association’s "Sense of sacrifice" and urges the doctors to rededicate themselves to public service and the promotion of the health of all the people.

Some civil society groups have faulted the Academic Staff Union of University, (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter over over certain remarks against the University of Ilorin as credited to the union.   Addressing a joint press conference in Osogbo, Osun state, the groups which include the Good Governance and Leadership Assessment Initiative (GGLAI), World Institute for Peace (WIP) and National Congress of Nigerian Students (NACONS) said the comment attributed to ASUU-UI against UNILORIN was unguided and irritating. The FCT Police Command says it has embarked on a stop and search operation in an effort to curtail the rising cases of car theft. A statement by the command’s spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, said the police would flag down vehicles on the highways and search to ensure that every vehicle owner has proof of ownership.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered the appearance of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in the trial of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh. In a unanimous decision by a three man panel of justices presided by Justice Peter Ige, the Court of Appeal also ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce Dasuki during the trial. The appellate court set aside the decision of Justice Okon Abang, of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which rejected Metuh’s application to compel Dasuki as a witness in the case. Metuh is facing a seven-count charge over allegation of receiving the sum of N400 million from Dasuki through his company, Destra Investments Ltd. Metuh lawyers Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) and Tochukwu Onwugbufor (SAN) had argued that Dasuki was a relevant witness in the case since the purported money came from his office.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday admitted a self-acclaimed bishop, Bankole Jefferson, to a N1.5 million bail, after being  charged with N9 million fraud. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, ruled that the accused must produce two sureties, who must show evidence of payment of three years tax to the Lagos State Government. Jefferson, 54, bishop of Mercy Tabernacle Church, Ogba, Lagos, is standing trial on a three -count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu told the court that Jefferson committed the offences sometime in January in Ogba, Lagos. Nwangwu said the accused obtained the money from the complainant, Mr Akinyemi Adebayo on the pretext of supplying  diesel.
