He was christened according to the norms and his full name and his date of birth were written on his stomach. That was how his parents recorded his birth and they thought his birth had been sufficiently recorded.  Without basic education, the 22-year-old Oyebisi is now learning how to become a bricklayer and he is quite oblivious of what the future holds for him. No water supply, sanitation services in more than 87 percent of motor parks, markets in Nigeria

A current Water, Sanitation and Hygiene survey has indicated that only 12.4 percent of markets and motor parks in Nigeria have basic Water Supply and Sanitation Services and the rest of the 87.6 percent of the market and motor parks in the country lack functional improved water source and usable improved toilet. The Chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) with the United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF), Zaid Jurji gave the indication at a Media Dialogue in Port Harcourt, Rivers State today. The Media Dialogue was organised by the Child Rights Information Bureau (CRIB) of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with UNICEF as part of efforts to address the challenges of poor situation of water, sanitation and hygiene in the country.

Propagate birth registration, journalists told

The Federal Government has charged journalists in the country to propagate the issue of birth registration for children under age five to assist government at all levels to plan for the kids. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed gave the charge in Lagos today at a Media Dialogue on Birth Registration organised by the ministry in collaboration with the United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF).

The 5th Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS5) conducted in 2016 and 2017 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other key partners has indicated a nationwide drop in Infant Mortality and increase in Child Malnutrition in Nigeria.
